Hi to everyone

I've started this topic as a general debate on how we can bring this city's urban transport system up to world's best practice, i.e. by creating public transport options which are affordable, quick, efficient, environmentally friendly, user-friendly, convenient and safe, after allowing for the massive growth we're experiencing here now [and will continue to] and also recognising that many commuters,/shoppers/traders are very reluctant to leave their cars at home.
Those of you who live in Queensland know that currently all three levels of government have been pouring massive amounts of public money into building more roads. This is continuing to occur despite much evidence that constructing more roads simply makes traffic congestion worse, not better. Now the State and the city council are planning to construct not one but a series of road tunnels, more road bridges and more freeways, at a time when the community is telling our leaders that this is the WRONG WAY - GO BACK
What are the transport options which don't impact negatively on the lives of the urban dweller, which will encourage him/her to leave the car in the garage and walk, cycle, catch the bus or train or light rail [when we get it!]
and which just might allow Brisbane to become a truly liveable city?
These are just some opening thoughts to get this discussion up and running. I say that we have the intelligence and the technology and the ability to make it happen NOW. Let's work towards making a difference!
Cheers - Sundance :)
